Qubes OS Summit 2025: Rethinking Security Through Isolation
From September 26 to 28, 2025, the international open-source community will gather at The Social Hub Berlin for the Qubes OS Summit 2025 – a hybrid event dedicated to the future of Qubes OS.
Virtual Walls Instead of Vulnerabilities: The Qubes OS Principle
Qubes OS is one of the most compelling operating systems for users with the highest security and privacy requirements. Instead of running all programs in a single environment, Qubes OS separates them into isolated virtual machines—called Qubes. If one of them is compromised, the impact remains confined to that specific Qube.
The technical foundation is the Xen hypervisor, complemented by a robust security model:
- Domain separation – e.g., for work, banking, or “untrusted” tasks
- Minimalist base system – the dom0 is isolated from the Internet
- Reduced attack surface – network and USB components run separately
- Intuitive use – colored window borders indicate the security domain
This architecture makes Qubes OS ideal for journalism, activism, and security-critical operations — but increasingly also for businesses that require strict workspace separation.
About the Event
The Qubes OS Summit 2025 offers interactive workshops, expert talks, and networking focused on secure infrastructure. Whether attending live on-site or digitally via stream and Jitsi, participants will gain practical insights into architecture, use cases, and ongoing developments.
